Fleur De Lys to Cheer Me Up
June 12, 2012 in dessert, pastry
Since I was a bit frustrated of the results of my first try at food photography (thought I could’ve done better) I was in desperate need of comfort food to cheer me up so I dragged my friends and head to Fleur De Lys at Tomas Morato, Quezon City. Nothing beats yummy pastry, a cup of coffee, and good chit-chat with friends
One thing’s for sure; fleur de lys was a haven of yummy pastries!
They have a wide array of cake selections and other pastries; from red velvet cupcakes to different breads that would please your sweet tooth. The place had this cozy ambiance and is a nice place to stay if you want to hang out with friends or kill some free time.
First was the choice of coffee, my friends got their English Toffee and Dark Mocha, while I tried their Macadamia Nut Latte.
Their drinks are reasonably priced and are quite nice. I’ll get that Dark Mocha next time
Tried their macadamia nut latte and it was good! it had pieces of macadamia nuts and some caramel syrup on top
And we did indulge and got a few cake slices
Warm Chocolate Cake with a scoop of French Vanilla Ice Cream.
Their next best thing was an instant favorite! I’m a big fan of lava cakes loved the contrast of hot and cold and the chocolatey goodness of the cake to the rather subtle flavor of the ice cream.
I think all of us raved of how good it was. If you love chocolate cake, you should try this one
Macadamia Nut Tart topped with pistachio ice cream.
Nut lovers will sure love this one, the tart was packed with macadamia nuts and is paired with pistachio ice cream, tho their ice cream wasn’t on the creamy side, it was more like shaved ice. But other than that it was okay and the tart was actually quite nice.
Mango mousse on mango cake with mango bits on an almond crunch crust
The mango mousse was light and refreshing and I loved it, tho the almond crunch crust was too sweet for our liking.
Rich and creamy mango taste, loved the bits of mango at the top!
Light baked cheesecake, anyway you want it!
Cheesecake lovers will love their cheesecake by request, they have a variety of topping choices like chocolate, caramel, blueberry, and strawberry. Their cheesecake was creamy and light in flavor loved how the drizzled chocolate helped to give it a more interesting flavor combination
Caramel, chocolate, and yema cream on on soft chifon cake. Sprinkled with toasted sliced almonds.
When I saw the description on the menu I was hoping that it would much that double chocolate yema cake of SLICE that I really liked. But it’s more of a light creamy chifon cake. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad but it’s not rave-worthy either.
Thin almond meringue wafers with french buttercream in between, topped with chocolate glaze.
Their almond loca was like a cross between sansrival and pinipig crunch. It was good! loved the meringue wafers that is not too sweet, the chocolate glaze was a nice touch.
It’s covered with chocolate and when you hit the meringue it’s nice and chewy, we loved it.
That day ended with us stuffed with yummy desserts, the pastries really helped me cheer up! I’m ready for the next shoot

VERDICT: Fleur De Lys is definitely a haven for yummy pastries, add the cozy ambiance and good service, the place really deserves a return trip! They also serve various non dessert entrées that I’d like to try.
VALUE FOR MONEY: Good value for money, most of the cakes we tried were good and are reasonably priced.

Nice! This is actually one of my favorite humble ‘dessert spots’ in Tomas Morato, Eugene! I’ve spent most of my college days lounging here. Haha!
