Bakahan at Manukan, Metrowalk
May 13, 2012 in Filipino
Super late dinner at Metrowalk, we stumbled upon this new restaurant, Bakahan at Manukan. It’s actually a franchise of Isdaan and they serve good Filipino food, I love their Bulalo Steak!

Bulalo + Bacon + Gravy = AWESOME ![]()
Okay, crappy shots ahead so please bear with me *telephoto lens fail*
To get this shot I had to go out of the resto
anyway, the interiors was quite good and tasteful and there’s couches on the side tables for that extra comfort
Their staff wears the traditional baro’t saya, a nice touch. They were all kind and very welcoming.
We started with a few things since they wanted to drink some beer, we got their Chicharon Bulaklak, Sizzling Sisig, and Inihaw na Liempo first
Their Chicharon Bulaklak was good, you get the salty goodness of the chicharon and it’s not oily. It’s definitely a good beer mate
The usual stuff for pulutan, we tried their Inihaw na Liempo and Sizzling Sisig. Their sisig was quite nice actually, but I prefer it to be a bit more toasted. I love a sisig that’s toasted enough, that the fatty bits becomes chicharon-like.
We also got their Bakang Maanghang, Lechon Tinupig, and Bulalo Steak Ala Mignon.
This was Naj’s pick, beef cubes topped with their peppery sauce served with rice, tomatoes, and salted egg. When I saw the Bakang Maanghang on the menu, I really thought they’d use peppers for spicing up the dish. Naj said it’s good and flavorful with a strong peppery taste.
This is what their Lechon Tinupig looked like when it was served. If you’re not familiar with the dish, it’s actually a native delicacy from Panggasinan. They cook the chicken with gata (coconut) and let the flavors be absorbed by the meat, then they’d roast it.
This is what it looked like when it was chopped. It’s quite good, the flavor from the gata was infused with the meat and you’ll also get this tinge of smoky flavor probably from roasting process.
Their Bulalo Steak Ala Mignon was sinfully good and delicious! Like I said Bulalo + Bacon + Gravy = AWESOME
Here’s a shot of the Bulalo Steak while the gravy was being poured. *Drools*
The dish was really good, it’s no secret that I’m a firm believer that everything is better with bacon so the dish was almost an instant favorite. The meaty goodness of the bulalo with the gravy and the crisp and saltiness from the bacon bits worked well.
We paired everything with their Bagoong Rice (good for 2-3 persons)
Fried rice with bagoong topped with slices of scrambled egg and green mangoes, it really flavorful and it went well with the entrees we god

VERDICT: Bakahan at Manukan offers local delicacies at good value for money, most of the dishes we had was good for sharing. I love their Lechon Tinupig and Bulalo Steak. It’s definitely one of those restaurants that deserve a return trip.
VALUE FOR MONEY: Good value for money, most of the stuff we got was good for sharing and the place is quite ideal if you’re planning to dine in with a large group and enjoy good Filipino food.

I’m not a big fan of Filipino cuisine but those are enticing enough for me to WANT to try it out!
Uh-oh… the photos made me drool. Aw! I so want the liempo!
I’ve never tried Bagoong rice but because I love bagoong and of course, rice… will definitely try it one day. Hope to visit the place, when I get the chance.
Their waitresses remind me of the singing cooks and waiters.
Wow! They all look yummy! And like you, I’m also a fan of bacon and cruncy sisig.
Everything looks so yummy! I’m currently laying low on cholesterol-packed food, but I probably can’t say no to that Bulalo Steak! Need to try Bakahan at Manukan soon!
I love the Filipino cuisine. Extra cholesterol in a meal won’t hurt. This is definitely a must try! A big fan of bulalo, wanna try that twist
My boyfriend would love this place. He’s a fan of Filipino food, the best bulalo steak I ever has was in Palawan @ Kinabuch’s grill. Since I’m just around the corner I’ll pay this resto a visit soon! =)
